What are probiotics?

Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host.

Well-chosen probiotic strains can be an ingredient of formulations that support normal body function, especially with regard to the gut microbiome. The composition and balance of the microbiome are influenced by many factors, including diet, stress, antibiotic therapy and travel.

Our freeze-dried probiotic strains are produced using specialised cultivation and manufacturing processes. They are used mainly as a raw material for dietary supplements and functional food.

Innovative postbiotics

In response to growing interest in modern solutions for the nutraceutical industry, Bioprox Healthcare has also developed a wide range of postbiotics.

A postbiotic is a preparation of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components that can have a beneficial effect on the host. Available studies point to the potential of postbiotics in many areas, including gut health, immune response, allergies and the body’s response to stress.

Our postbiotics are produced by tyndallisation and are a stable raw material for use in a variety of market segments, such as:

  • dietary supplements
  • functional food
  • cosmetics
  • pet food and animal feed

The properties of postbiotics depend on the strain used, how it is processed and the target formulation. This makes them suitable for many applications for both humans and animals.

The mode of action of postbiotics involves, among other things, interaction between bacterial cell components and host cells. These interactions can influence processes related to the immune response, gut barrier function, metabolism and signalling within the nervous system.

Saccharomyces boulardii Unique 28

Saccharomyces boulardii Unique 28®

A well-characterised probiotic yeast strain developed by Unique Biotech. Thanks to its high stability and favourable technological properties, it is used mainly as a raw material for dietary supplements. The strain’s safety has been confirmed by genetic studies, including whole-genome sequencing, as well as by preclinical and clinical studies.

  • non-pathogenic, genetically identified probiotic yeast strain
  • resistant to stomach acid and bile acids
  • unaffected by antibiotics
  • stable at room temperature, with no need for cold storage

Saccharomyces boulardii is a yeast species that has been used for more than 50 years in products supporting the balance of the gut microbiome and normal digestive function. Clinical studies point to the potential of this strain in gut health formulations, including for acute diarrhoea, traveller’s diarrhoea, antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and selected functional gastrointestinal disorders.

Bacillus coagulans Unique IS-2

Bacillus coagulans Unique IS-2®

A spore-forming probiotic strain with high technological stability. Because it forms spores, it remains highly stable during manufacturing, storage and distribution, which makes it a suitable raw material for dietary supplements, functional food and functional beverages. The strain has been the subject of numerous scientific studies, including more than 20 clinical trials.

  • resistant to high temperatures and demanding manufacturing processes
  • stable during storage and transport
  • resistant to stomach acid and bile acids
  • suitable for capsules, tablets, sachets and powder formulations
  • does not affect the sensory properties of the final product

Available scientific data indicate that Bacillus coagulans Unique IS-2® can be used in products designed to support a balanced gut flora, normal digestive function, immune function and metabolic health.

Bacillus clausii UBBC-07

Bacillus clausii UBBC-07®

A spore-forming probiotic strain that supports a balanced gut microbiota. Thanks to its resistance to stomach acid and favourable technological properties, it is used as a raw material for dietary supplements supporting digestive health. The strain’s safety has been confirmed in clinical studies.

  • non-pathogenic, genetically identified probiotic strain
  • well-documented safety profile
  • resistant to stomach acid and bile acids
  • naturally resistant to many antibiotics
  • can be used in formulations taken during and after antibiotic therapy
